Tiny Terror + LP studio + c5/phat cat mix = ?

So after carefully narrowing down my options, I have decided that I will invest in a Tiny Terror and a (gib) LP studio. However, for pickups, how would a phat cat in the neck and a custom 5 in the bridge sound for Jimi Hendrix sounds, as well as classic rock, zepplein, and retro/stoner/traditional metal?

Phat Cats in the neck can be very warm & rounded in mahogany, nothing Hendrix-like there, or Zeppelin. If you want a true P-90 sound, a GFS Mean 90 is a better choice.

With what you're playing, there is no one ideal guitar or PU. I play a lot of classic rock (love Zeppelin) and my first choice is an LP with a pair of Duncan PAF's, like WLH's, Seth's, or A2P's. If you want to sound more like Hendrix, a Strat helps with that, but moves you away from Zeppelin. You need to decide what side of the fence you want to favor. I play some Hendrix, but I don't have that Strat-like tone.

Hendrix is most closely associated with the Fender Stratocaster and a well-known array of effect pedals. In my opinion, a modified Gibson LP is not going to deliver those sounds or feel right in the hands for some of the fingering moves.

Classic Rock, LZ and the other styles that you mention should be easily within the compass of a Les Paul.

For a compromise between Gibson sounds and the Hendrix image, I would get a Flying Vee.

Jimi Hendrix had a p90-loaded LP

Jimi Hendrix had a p90-loaded LP

He also had an SG Custom and 3 Flying V's. But none of those were used nearly as much as his Strats.

What PU's are in the LP Studio you're looking at? If it has a 498T/490R set, that bridge is a bright and midscooped 14K PU with an A5 magnet, same as a C5. The 490R neck is a warm, fat A2 PU, not all that dissimilar to a Phat CatN. So if it comes with that set, there's not a lot of point in spending the money on a C5/Phat Cat. Playing live, I doubt anyone in the crowd or on stage would hear the difference between those two sets.

The concept of the 'do everything' guitar has been proven many times over to be a myth. Nothing is going to sound like both an LP and a Strat. Which is the most important to you?
