...sounds like a fricking Leslie inside this damn thing. :) I'm calling her Caitlin as that means "pure" in the Celtic tongue. I think I'm going to build one for myself. It's got mercury mags in it, NOS Brimars, GE 5U4, NOS RCA 12AY7 in V1. Weber vintage speaker, large lacquered tweed cab (1x15 Pro size with a 1x12 baffle). Like a Leslie is living inside her.

Scott, the older Magnatone circuits actually pitch shifted when the tremolo was engaged...cool stuff and rarely explored! Wishing you the best with your endeavor's....:smokin:

I got her all buttoned up and got some cheese shots. This is a real warbler. And it sounds freaking huge. I'm tickled to death on this one.

A certain forum brother will be VERY pleased with this new toy....

Yeah, I called him this afternoon while I was plugged in and playing. I started with "hey man, wha'ts going on?" and he said, "Jolly?"

I laughed. I knew my accent was pretty bad, but not Jolly-bad. ;)

Thanks Lew. Coming from you with the experience with tweeds and your brother's amps you've been around for a long while, that means a lot.

Bruce got me started in this mad world of amps. I still say he's got the very best combination of parts and support of any kit guy out there.

I meant it. I have a real soft spot for well done tweeds and I can hear how good that one sounds just from looking at it. :) Did you do the lacquer job yourself? Lew

Mojo does my tweed cabs at this time. They lacquer them as well. I had one go at staining a cab once but that was it.

Yeah, I think Bruce uses Mojo too. I've tried using colored lacquers when I recovered my '54 Super and it turned out nice but didn't look like an old Fender to me. I get the best resuts just using Bullseye Shellac. http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?FamilyID=4210 I mix the Bullseye clear with the Bullseye amber to get the right shade and then I do a few coats, then use 220 grit sandpaper to sand the shellac really smooth and then buff it with a little Johnson's paste wax and some fine steel wool. Gives them a beautiful warm and aged looking finish that even nicer than vintage Fenders.

Very nice indeed. I'd love to hear that thing. I tried a victoria trem-de-la-trem when I was on tour recently, and really liked it.

P.S. Sorry for confusing you on the phone with Jolly, Scott. :smack: It could've been worse -- I could've confused you with Odie. :laugh2:

Re: Tweed Tremolux...

I don't know anything about a Tremolux, but if it sounds like a Leslie, it must be good! Nice work. :)
