to bigsby or not to bigsby, that is the question!

I'm doing up a lovely 40 odd year old hollowbody guitar, it's a 70's antoria jazzster nothing special or worth anything but mojo it has in heaps! I really want this to be a vintage player (see my post in the pickup lounge) I was thinking about adding a bigsby, mainly because I like them and hate the floating tailpiece on this guitar. Do you think its a good idea? What tonal changes could I expect? The only guitars with bigsbys I own came that way from the factory so I have no base for comparison.

Some say you lose sustain with a Bigsby, other say the tone may get too fat. I love the sound and its a perfect compliment to a hollowbody like Gretsch. If you can fit one on, might as well.

Plenty of sustain with a Bigsby. You are confusing it with a Floyd. It is a little harder to string a Bigsby, but it is the most resonant of the whammy bars. It works great with hollowbodies.

Haha bigsbys are awesome! I'm slowly doing this guitar up bit by bit and a bigsby is probably one of two last things on the list of upgrades, the other being a rocking bar bridge. I'm thinking b6 as I won't have to drill holes in the top of the guitar so its relativity reversible other than the end mounting holes I'm hoping the tail piece on it now will cover anyway, should I decide to go back. I just love the natural tone of this guitar and don't want to compromise it by adding something

I'd say give it a go! Bigsby's are cool and in the right hands, down right awesome!
