To buy or not to buy? That is the question.

I am about to come into a considerable sum of money due to my enlistment in the National Guard (10k) and I have dreamed of owning one of these for years. They are very very hard to come by lefty. My question is, will it retain its value and is it really worth that much money?

If you've dreamed of owning one for so many years why are you concerned with resale value? huh? huh?

because thats a lot of cash to drop on a guitar.

Three and a half K for a 70's Tele?

Out****ingrageous.

If it played like God I wouldn't consider anything more than 2 grand, tops, in mint condition with the hang tags and a previous celebrity owner.

70's Fenders are only popular now because the 50's and 60's have been snapped up be collectors. As time goes on and those collectors retire the market's likely to loosen up a bit.

With that said I own a 73' Strat and it's astonishing; best Strat tone I've ever had bar none and lighter than ANY Strat I've ever picked up. But had I not snapped it up for less than a used MIM a few years ago from a seller that just wanted it out of his closet I likely wouldn't have bothered to even look at it.

its left handed and they didnt make very many of these. i think this is the second example ive seen.

Regardless....a left-handed likely has even less demand.

For three and a half grand you could have the Fender Custom Shop make you something MUCH better and likely get them to throw in an amp as well.

Then you've obviously been dreaming about this guitar for the wrong reasons.

But, to answer your question, IMO I don't think this guitar would have even half that resale value.

Go with a custom shop guitar, You'll probably like it alot more in the long run.

I wouldn't worry about resale value unless you plan on selling it, all I'd care about is the quality behind it.

Re: To buy or not to buy? That is the question.

I am inclined to agree. Have something made, or something new...70s Fenders are pretty much garbage...and for 3500 dollars it's a no brainer. You could pay half that and get something superior in every way (not saying it isn't a sweet looking guitar though).
