To pot or not to pot?

I have a '59 in the neck of my LP and I'm about to order a gold cover for it.

Question: do I need to pot this pup before I put the cover on? I've read lots of conflicting stuff on the 'net (surprise surprise). I don't want to go thru the hassle if it's not necessary. Of course, I don't want to install it and then get microphonic feedback and have to take the cover off and THEN pot it, either.

Thoughts or prior experiences on this?

Thanks

Re: To pot or not to pot?

You put one drop of wax on top of one of the bobbins, put the cover on with strong downpull, then use a hairdryer to melt the wax just a bit. If you can do the pull at the same time as the dryer.

Thanks much. That sounds MUCH easier than what I was envisioning (two bots, boiling water, thermometer, dunk pup, etc etc). The wifey has a hairdryer, I'll press it into service.
