i finally got my SG today! i'm broke as a joke again but i don't care because this thing sounds and plays better than any guitar i've owned thus far. i can't wait to be sportin' this bad boy at the show i'm playing friday night, it's the most comfortable guitar ever, and it's way lighter than my artist.

now i can't wait until my next check so i can throw a new bridge pickup in there :laugh2:

Nice axe....I Love my SG Standard also....Nice marriage of a strat and and a Les Paul...Not as bright or thin as a strat, but not as dark and ballsy as a LP,but the weight is great...My band member like my SG the most, but it just isn't as versatile as a strat...SGs are great guitars with great looks...Glad I own one also..Best of luck with it also.

Very very nice!

I've always wondered...how do you remove the pickguard to change pickups with the TOM right there? Do you have to unscrew it?

it appears that yes, you do have to remove the bridge...i didn't realize this until after i brought it home. oh well. once i scrape up enough money to be able to buy a pickup, i'll try to haggle the installation price down with the guy at GC. after all, i did just spend a grand there...i'll bet that i can get them to cut me a decent deal. i'd take a stab at it myself but i don't want to ruin the setup, because it plays wonderfully.

Some of the SG's I've repaired over the years have had the big pickguards. On those, the guard had 2 holes that fit down over the bridge anchors nice and snug. You didn't have to remove the anchors themselves to get the guard off. Just the bridge.

sweet guitar.. ive been wanting an SG again for awhile... so i got 1 today.

what bridge pickup are you thinking about puttin in it?

Re: today was an excellent day!! (pics)

Right on man, few guitars look as good in black as an SG :)
They've always been one of my favorite guitars.

I've got a pair of covered 59s in my '96 Standard... KILLER tone.

What are you thinking of going with for your bridge pickup?

Re: today was an excellent day!! (pics)

i'm thinking of putting a '57 classic plus in it. i had that pickup in an old guitar and it just screamed. though i'm not dead set on it yet. i'm just looking for something with similar output as my JB only with not quite as much midrange.
