I have a Squier Strat, and I'm thinking of using a small wire to jumper the prongs for the middle and bridge tone connections of my 5 way selector switch. How many of you have tried this? Does the tone control work equally well for the bridge and the middle pickups? How about the in-between position?

i usually like a tone on the bridge, typically i just move the wire from the middle pup to the bridge and leave the middle without but i have done it the way you are thinking about and it works ok

It works fine, but the tone is a little different in the B/M notch position when both M and B pups are loaded down with a tone pot. Leaving the middle open by switching the wiring as Jeremy suggested will leave the 2/4 positions with only a single tone pot load, so they may sound more lively that way than with the traditional wiring. A no-load tone pot is another option that works well, although some folks don't like the feel of the no-load notch. I have Strats wired both ways with and without no-load tone pots. I tend to prefer having a tone control for both the M and B these days, since I'm using the middle alone more often than I used to.
