Tone difference between DD and trem spaced DD

Re: Tone difference between DD and trem spaced DD

out of topic... does PRS customs with stoptails need trembukers in the bridge? any experience on that?

Re: Tone difference between DD and trem spaced DD

The differences that you saw at the specs page are between the Distortion model and the Parallel Axis Distortion Trembucker. There is a trembucker version of the regular distortion model which has exactly the same specs as the regular spaced one. Generally the specs you see on that website refer to both versions of that particular pickup.

Re: Tone difference between DD and trem spaced DD

The only guitars that need Trembuckers are those equipped with Floyds or similar bridges. The vintage trems like those on Prs guitars have the original string spaces so you don't need Trembuckers

Re: Tone difference between DD and trem spaced DD

. . . with some exceptions. My Patriot is a hardtail, and its string spacing is much wider than any of my tremolo-equipped guitars. I don't know why Peavey did that, but its part of the reason that I'm thinking of converting it to a Hipshot bridge.

(Probably part of the reason it came from the factory with "rails" style pups.) ;)

Re: Tone difference between DD and trem spaced DD

All Fender Strats need the Trembucker spacing. The Trembucker spacing matches the wider polepiece spacing of Fender single coils. If you're going to use a humbucker as the bridge pickup in a Strat get one with Trembucker spacing. 59 Trembucker, Screamin Demon Trembucker , Custom/Custom Custom/Custom 5 Trembucker, JB Trembucker, etc. Why be stubborn about it? Just do it. It's the right thing to do to make your guitar sound its best. Lew

People got along just fine before anyone thought of the trem spacing ...
If you wanna be anal about it, tho, defintely go for the trem spaced.

Amen! IMHO if the pickups are set lower to the body the spacing is not as critical; it is when you raise them close to the strings that mis-spacing can be a problem.

The two E strings will sound equally as strong and as loud as the other 4 strings with the Trembucker.

If the two E strings are not over the polepieces (as is the case with a standrad spaced Gibson style humbucker in the bridge position of a Strat) they will sound weaker than if they were over polepieces.

The difference is obvious...anyone with an ear for tone can hear the improvement in tone from the two E strings with the Trembucker.
