tonebone punch factory

Looking for Real Life
does it really add punch to your sound?

i know its a compression sustainer, so it'll tighten up the sound, make shrill things less shrill & nasal things less nasal, but i can really only picture that for notes, so how will it affect chords?

i mainly use powerchords so i like to keep my emphasis around the low-mid area, but i would like to take some of the shrillness out of the higher strings

Re: tonebone punch factory

No such Tonebone product. (I went to their web site and did'nt see anything.) Did you mean the Punch Factory compressor by Aphex? If so I have one and really like it. I guess you could say that I'm using it as an overall presence control. I find that it add's a real nice clarity and presence to the sound, which my Peavey Classic 30 needed. Gives cleans (notes and chords) a real nice definition. As far as distorted sounds it also gives more definition because it evens out the peak's. I use it most of the time but "sparingly" so to say. Two knobs, Drive and Level, and I set the Drive knob around 4 and set the Level at around 6 or 7. Hope this helped you.

Re: tonebone punch factory

I've never used those, so I can't comment, but have you ever tried a BBE Sonic Maximizer or 31 band rackmount EQ? EQ's are nice because you can pinpoint the exact frequencies that bother you and pull them down, and also beef up the low.
Just an idea.

Re: tonebone punch factory

Yeah I was just gonna say...not all of us can afford massive rackmount EQ's, or we'd all have perfect tone...
