I've been playing with pedals lately, and have amassed a small pile of them. Now that the experimenting is over and I've pretty much settled on "my sound", I have a few extras.
First is an Ibanez Soundtank Chorus. Take it from an overusing chorus junky, it sounds pretty good. If you just want a chorus to have one around for occasional use, this is great bang-for-buck. By my standards the plastic case is a bit too cheesy for the rigors of the road, but for home or studio use, it's great. $17 shipped to the CONUS.
Next, we have a brand-new Boss DS-1. I bought this recently, intending to mod it. Later the very same day, I got an offer to trade for a Keeley Ultra Mod DS-1. I like the Keeley just fine, so I'm not going to bother with this one. SOLD.
Speaking of cheesy... last and certainly weirdest, is a Daphon E10OD overdrive pedal. I bought it as a scratch-and-dent from the U.S. distributor. This was made by Daphon, a huge Chinese music-stuff factory. They made the Soundtank pedals for Ibanez. Anyway, the problem with this pedal was those kooky Chinese had put in the wrong spring under the footpedal. It too stiff: like, auto-engine-valve-spring-stiff. It literally tore the pedal of the rest of the lower case. So, a little superglue (stronger than the plastic itself) and the right spring (liberated from yet another Soundtank) and the E10OD is better than new.
And guess what you find when you look inside?
That's right folks, it's a clone of a Boss SD-1, complete with JRC4558D op-amp and asymmetrical clipping diodes. Kooky to the end, the Chinese even copied an OLD SD-1, set up to take the obsolete ACA power supply. So, I modded it to run off a normal PSA, 1-Spot or whatever.
It sounds great. Again, not the most durable package in the world, but for home or studio, it's fantastic. And what a conversation piece! I'm told that in other parts of the world (Australia, specifically) they sell these in your finer supermarkets; but just try to find on in the States.
Use it as-is, re-pot it into a Hammond box, or just practice mods on it before inflicting them on a real SD-1. SOLD.(Man, that was fast.... it took less time to sell it than it did to write the *&^% ad. I musta left something on the table. :grumble: Just kidding, Shauggy. Thanks.)
