Traditional or Contemporary?

I've been convinced to get an Avatar cab, but I'm not sure which one to go with. Which cab is closer to an Orange cab spec wise? Traditional or Contemporary? I really like the looks of the Traditional better, but I want the best sound possible.

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?

Spec wise the contemporary is closest to orange cabs

traditional - fender black/silver style cabs, more or less. Supersonic cabs are also real close spec wise
vintage - old marshall
contemporary - orange

Regardless what genre i play, i would go for the contemp. cab every time !

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?

I am running a pair of traditional Avatar 2/12's under my Prosonics and they both sound great. It just don't get much more brutal on tha gain and power than my Red rig! The bigger Contemporary 2/12 will have more THUMP in the bottom but all of um will ROCK with a good high gain head!

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?

There's a 4x12 vintage cab with choice of Eminence speakers going for a great price on ebay. It's only at $127 right now. I'd be willing to bid up on it if you guys think it's a good deal. I'd probably like the contemporary cab more, but if I can get this cab for less than $300.....should be alright...ya think?

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?

trad is more classic fender voiced

vintage will sound a little more midrangey

contemporary will have the most low end & project the most

The Traditional cab does NOT sound at ALL like a Bandmaster cab!! Looks like one but doesn't sound like it. I own 2 traditional Avatars both closed back and they sound HUGE. The Fender cab is much boxier sounding and lighter in the bottom tonewise than the Traditional Avatar is.
I will sell my near mint Traditional 2/12 in Blond Oxblood loaded with late 80's British 75's for $300. I had it built for the Fender Super Sonic head I had then sold the head. It right now is in my studio loaded with WGS Vet 30's and miced up.

yeah get it

and i wasn't talking about bandmaster cabs. Fender had some that were seriously identical to the avatars that came in black & silver. I think the bandmaster cab you're talking about has rear loaded speakers and all kinda of crazy insulation inside it.

The Avatars rear load but have no insulation. I own a late 80's stagered speaker 2/12 Fender cab also and it ROCKS but these cabs are pretty scarce.

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?

According to the measurements the vintage cab is bigger than the contemporary. Does that make difference?

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?

I run a high gain ENGL into a 4x12 traditional with great results. Big distortion tones, great clean tones. Can't speak on the other two types though.

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?

it's taller but not as deep

like i said contemporary will have more lows & vintage will have more mids

I must have been confused then. Here's what their site says:

The G412 Vintage cabinet dimensions are 30"W x 29.5"H x 14"D.

The G412 Contemporary cab dimensions are 29"W x 29"H x 14"D.
