trainwrecks

Re: trainwrecks

A LONG time ago. I knew a guy who knew Ken Fisher and we went over to Kens' house/shop in Edison NJ once. He was a real nice guy and he had one of those amps there and I got to play it for a few seconds. Nice and crunch, like a mix between a cranked up Bassman and Plexi. A little cleaner than a Plexi, but at the TIME it was a heavy distortion, lol.

Re: trainwrecks

Yup.

Years ago I was the house engineer at a studio that has a Blackface 'Lux (I think it was a Lux anyway) that had been 'Wrecked.

Freakin' AMAZING if you were after the one thing it does...

The only control that seemed to have any real effect on the tone was 'volume'!

:chairfall

Really thick, creamy & responsive to changes in picking attack...imagine Santana but without the 'cheese whiz' factor...maybe a Warren Hayne-ish meets Santana kinda thing.

Sick really.

Notes would sustain for eons...

Re: trainwrecks

I've played a Komet. That's about as close as I think I'll ever get. The Komet was a BEAST! It was more than I'd ever need but it would just sing!

Re: trainwrecks

yea scott i thought about getting one of those, but there is the $6000 price tag:smack: so i'am gonna try and build one:fingersx:

Re: trainwrecks

The reason you don't see a lot of wreck clones is that they operate right on the edge between stability and unstability. Lead dress is critical as well.

FYI, gerald weber sells a "kit" called the JoyZee. It's a wreck clone of some kind. Probably the ill-fated Climax. When weber sells one, he sells it with the board completed and the leads attached. He claims that if he let folks attach their own leads, they'd add too much and screw the entire thing up.

Re: trainwrecks

I'm running Mullards throughout and pumping it through a '68 straight basketweave and a '74 slant.

Harmonic bloom, and touch sensitivity like nobodys business. There's more gain on 4 than a Marshall has on 10!! It's a really compressed singing tone that lets every nuance of your playing shine through.

It looks like I've got a ton of filtering but I was missing some parts so I just doubled up on some caps to get the right value. I've since fixed it and it's much cleaner looking now. :)
