ok, ive been looking for an amp since december, saying i'd buy one this summer. now the time is near for me to buy it, and i have narrowed it down to these 2 amps. I even got a deal from musicansfriends to lower the price on the ycv40wr from $715 to $599.95. I play blues to early metal, the hardest gain i need would be for metallica MAYBE!! the only metallica i play is their clean stuff. So Van halen distortion would be as much as i need. could you guys help me out please?

If you can spare the $, go for the 50 blue. I've heard great things about it. Plus they now offer a 1x12 extension cabinet. From what I've heard it has an awesome gain channel.

Sincerely,

well, the 40 has an extention cab too.

i think cleans are way more important for me. i play clean way more than OD, and with a good clean, you can always add pedals and get a better OD.

I will be playing it side to side with a crate v32 palomino. i just love the sound of the crate, which one is closer to that?

damn im so stuck. if only i could try them out, and see which one i like best, but there isnt any store that carry them around Irvine CA. im so stuck between 2 amps, its pulling me so far im about to split in half haha.

oo i have an idea. which amp does the ycv40wr sound more like. i konw the ycv 50 has fender cleans and marshall OD, so i could compare those to wathever the 40 is like. anyone know?

The 40 has more of a Fender/american drive, I believe. They're both great clean amps, so why get the 40 and a pedal when you can get the 50 and be done with it? I've seen amazing deals for new/slightly used ones on eBay, too.

I played both of them rather extensively a couple of months ago while looking for my amp. . . just like you cleans are very important to me. The YCV40WR wins hands down for cleans. The vintage 30 in it with the 5881s do some really fantastic fendery sounds. (I picked this amp after a/bing it with a fender deluxe reverb reissue, and a bassman RI). A word of warning though, you will want to get the extension cab with this amp. Without the cab, the amp sounds a little too bright, with the cab it's beautiful and articulate (and not quite so bright) sounding. The wine red traynor takes pedals very well, and has got a decent amount of clean headroom for playing live. The volume control is also pretty good so you can turn it down to bedroom practice levels when you want. It really is a nice amp to play.

I'll post a full review on here some time around the end of the month when I get to do my company jam session (usually have about 12 guitariststs, 2 bass players, a singer, and a drummer so I should really get to crank it and see how it holds up).
