Treading New Ground.

While I still haven't sold the guitars I've been meaning to sell for the last few months (I'll get around to it; shut up), I decided to look for the best discount on a guitar and found it here.

The "problem" is the item was returned due to excessive ground noise. It will require an electronics repair.

With an almost 40% discount, I can live with that shade of gold.

Keeping the active pickups makes the modification obvious. But I don't think I want to.

So...did you get it?

And, if you did, you have to post what the issue is.

It's paid for (in the Paypal sense) and should arrive next week.

The website says excessive ground noise and I've had guitars with loose wiring from these people before, so it might just be that.

Their QC is essentially "It worked when *I* played it" without looking under the backplate.

This looks so much like an LTD Eclipse - is it one of those brands that's made by the same people at the same factory, but with some cosmetic differences so they're not in conflict with any trademarks?

This is the one that arrived.

This is the tangled mess I have to deal with.

It's very buzzy, P-90 buzzy.

I haven't examined the problem too closely, but it might be easier to figure it out if I tidy it up a bit.

Yeah, I'd just say if you just get clean up all the extra long wires, good chance the problem resolves itself.

Seems like you got yourself quite the steal. :headbang:

The gold is ok. Are you planning to do anything in particular to make this one left-handed?

The angle of the tune-o-matic is a tad sharper than usual, so I've reversed the saddles on the bottom strings. The strings will obviously need to be flipped. Since the nut is relatively new, I can refile that so I don't need to flip it. The high E might be "loose", but I haven't had an issue doing it this way before.

I'm not big on pick guards, but if I can get one to sit "flat", I might put one on to emphasise that it's played left-handed.

Removing the tone control (my standard mod) will give better arm access, but the controls don't really get in the way.

Just had a weird idea. If I make it a single pickup guitar, I could replace the toggle switch with the output jack. There should be room.

Something to ponder later.
