Trembucker mounting holes

Hello

I have the TB-5 in the bridge of my gibson v. The strings create a sharp angle over the bridge pickup and as a result the poles looking at a bridge are significantly further from the strings than the poles looking at the neck. I'm pretty sure that this is because the neck was set with too much of an angle to the body.

Anyway I'm looking for a way to tilt the pickup. I can't remember though if this pickup has 3 mounting holes. If it does I'm thinking to drill one more hole on the pickguard and put one more screw that will set the tilt.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Trembucker mounting holes

Probably the easiest way to fix it would be to cut a piece of foam the right size & put it under just one side ,causing it to tilt a little

Re: Trembucker mounting holes

The standard TB pickups I have (TB4/TB5) have three holes in the leg to accomodate this, or you can just use the foam from the pickup box underneath the pickup if you dont want to drill it out. Getting the foam right can be tricky but if you get it close you can fine tune the alignment with the adjustable pole pieces.

thanks guys
i have less a problem to drill the pickguard than stick foam in the guitar heh!
i've heard people use the foam but still the screw will always give me the right tilt whatever the pickup's height.

i also thought about raising the polepieces on the side where they are further from the strings. but i'm not sure that will work well since the magnet will still be the same distance

Re: Trembucker mounting holes

The outside two holes in the Trembucker baseplate are NOT THREADED. They haven't been for many years. I think we put the holes in there for an OEM that used it that way in the beginning. When they stopped using it that way we omitted the threading. The three punches stayed in the tooling but the threading step is eliminated. I don't think we've heard anything about it. Maybe once a year we get a phone call from someone who thinks it's a mistake.

You can definitely tap them though. Even a cheap hardware store hand tap will work.

If you raise the pole-pieces, you are essentially raising the magnetic field to the strings. Yes, the magnet doesn't move, but the poles which carry the magnetic field become closer, which is akin to raising the pickup a bit. It should work. I know a lot of guys with Gibson-type guitars with angled necks and TOM bridges that tweak the poles because of this issue.

Re: Trembucker mounting holes

well if it does work that's the least painful of all solutions!
I'll try it and report back

Re: Trembucker mounting holes

well it seems that about 2mm raising of the poles did it!
no need for all that trouble with the extra screw or the foam.
thanks
