tried '59 other suggestions?

OK I finally got my hands on a '59 for the neck installed in my LP copy. I like the tone better than the Dimarzio I had before, but I still feel it is too dark for my tastes. What would be perhaps the brightest neck pickup I could go with? Would a PG or APH II be a brighter choice? others?

Jazz model?

The '59 should be almost as bright as it gets.

Maybe you could put a ceramic magnet in your '59, or something? I'm fresh out of ideas....

Jazz would be my next try as well. If that's not bright enough, I'm not sure what I'd recommend. The PG and the APH are Alnico II pups, and will be smoother with less prominent treble response than the 59. The APH is my favorite neck pup, but bright is not a word to describe it.

If you want a bright neck bucker go for a jazz. If you want to try another brand go for a dimarzio humbucker from hell or my favorite a bill lawrence L-500c. It sounds a tad bit brighter than a strat neck pickup but, alot more tone to it and its a bucker. An outstanding pickup!!!

'59's are my 2nd or 3rd fave HB primarily because of their brightness. What are your settings on the amp?

The A5 mag is what is causing the excessive lows for the neck position. Try a PG or a Seth. The PG in particular cured a similar issue I was having with a 59 and a Fralin being boomy in the neck of my PRS'.

The esact same thing happed with my LP. I went from a 59/JB set to a PG set because of the excessive lows (to my ears) that the Alnico V mag'd pickups produced. If you want to go even brighter than a Jazz and don't mind a bit of noise, the Phat Cat might be worth considering.

Re: tried '59 other suggestions?

I checked my settings on my amp and found out someone has been tampering with them. One of my friends had turned my treble down and bass up after restoing my settings it sounds a lot better. Guess I should keep my friends away from my amp from now on. thanks for the input if I decide to change again I will try the PG or the Jazz.
