Trouble Deciding...

Hello, I am looking to replace the pups in an Omen Exreme 7. It's a mahogany body and bolt on neck. I plan on putting an Air Norton in the neck, but I am stuck between the Duncan Custom and Duncan Distortion for the bridge. I am going for an industrial kind of sound. Really pissed and grinding, but big too. Think of the guitar on Ministry's Filth Pig album, or really any Ministry. Any other suggestions would be welcome as well, but its a 7 string so the options are kinda limited.... dammit.

excellent name and taste in dirt tones, if you don't mind me saying so :beerchug:

i've been meaning to ask these guys if anyone knows if a duncan distortion was used on this album (as i suspect); apparently tommy prong uses one now but he wasn't in the band at the time...

from those 2 i'd go with the duncan distortion, i don't think the custom's dirty enough for that tone. i haven't personally played on a distortion yet but i played a JB (same windings) for years and have tried all the customs. the DD has a rep for being versatile and some say it lacks definition, but swapping in some allen poles would likely sort that out.

but if you're going to do that, you may want to consider an invader as well - same wind as the JB/distortion, 2 screw coils, 3 mags

someone would be sleeping with both eyes open ; ]

Ah, thank you, Ministry is one of my all time favorites. I think the DD is gonna be the winner, I need me some nice raw balls out growl and it seems to fit the bill. The Invader is too much bass for my taste, I had one in an ESP 7 that I had about 6 years ago, it was all just mud. I don't think they used Duncans though, I read an interview with Uncle Al in Guitar World where he said that he drops Gibson 500t's in all his axes. Gibson makes good stuff I guess but a bit too pricey for my wallet.

Sorry to rehash my old topic, but does anyone have any experience with a D Sonic 7? This looks like a really unique pickup and now I am very curious about how it would do in a Mahogany axe, I had one in my basswood 6, but these are two very different beasts and my curiosity is killing me.

John Petrucci uses the Drop Sonic. I think he uses the Drop Sonic 7 also.

Linkin Park did also. Not the greatest band ever but their early distortion was definitely pretty nice.
