TROUBLE SHOOTING: Black Winter PUPs Coupled with a Blackout Preamp

I recently had a professional install a Blackout Preamp and 2 Black Winter humbuckers into my DeArmond M-50 with all new wiring. I got it back and there is loud noise coming from the bridge pickup. When switching to the neck pickup it is quiet and there is no noise. Did he miss a ground somewhere or are the BW pups too hot for the preamp? :cussing:

Too hot? Seriously doubtful

An EMG-style preamp compresses and clips, it shouldnt be possible for anything to be too hot for it, it would just get cut off imho

Sounds more like a wiring issue.



Loud noise meaning what, exactly? Just a loud noise, no string input signal? Louder than strings? Hum and quieter than strings?

There is some string input but its very low. The loud hum/feedback of the humbucker overpowers. Again only in the bridge and not in the neck position.

Or better yet make your "pro installer" fix it. And/or give you money back. Preferably, both

I'm always baffled by "tech's" like this. I always plug the guitar in and test it before I hand it back to a customer. Who wouldn't do that? :dunno:

That's exactly how the places around here do things too, which is why I started doing my own installs and general tech stuff about 12yrs back.

This sounds like a classic wiring issue, unless there is component failure. Either way, you paid for an install that isn't correct. Your tech should fix it.
