True Bypass mod for MXR Dyna-comp

I've just won a Dunlop MXR Dyna-comp on eBay and have read some reviews stating that they suck tone due to their crappy bypass when not on.

I've also seen references to the Fulltone 3PDT footswitch that makes pedals true bypass, and was wondering how easy it is to fit to the Dyna-comp, and how much difference it will make to the pedal?

I'm also awaiting a Visual Sounds Route 66 and depending on what the bypass is like on this i may want to carry out a similar mod on the switches on this pedal, so any opinions/help on that would be greatly appreciated too!

Hope you guys can give me some pointers!!

Sorry, you're out of luck if it's a newer Dunlop model. The Dunlop line of reissued MXR products have the switch soldered directly to the circuit board, making it physically impossible to true bypass the pedal. If you really want a Dynacomp, and you want to be able to true bypass it, sell the one you won and find an original MXR model. They're not too expensive, and the original MXR products are much better anyway. Sadly, Dunlop didn't reissue the pedals the way they were. Many of them are redesigned, and don't sound anything like the originals.

The good news is that the bypass on the Dunlop pedals is better than the bypass on the original MXR pedals. Those were notorious for sucking tone. You might be okay with the newer one, you'll have to try it and see what you think. Still, I recommend original MXR products for their better tone, better construction, and excellent resale value.

Thanks Ryan, i kinda thought i'd seen somewhere that the switches were difficult (or impossible!) to replace on the reissues, but thought i'd better check anyway.

I'll see what i think of the pedal, and maybe hold onto it until i can find an original.

Well it can be done.....requires a few cuts and some additional hardwiring, just to get true noisepass:laugh2:

Just use the pedal in a true-bypass loop or with a true-bypass box. Saves you from cutting up your pedal and you can use the true-bypass loop/box with other pedals. Besides, the reliability of stompswitches is iffy at best, and I'd rather have a stompswitch fail in a TB box than in the pedal itself.
