how do you adjust the truss rod in guitars? how do you know when the truss rod in your guitar is set up properly?

It's not really that hard or complex. If you do a Goolge search for "truss rod adjustement", you will find a wealth of knowledge. I would read through about 4 or 5 articles, some articles have concepts others gloss over or miss. You will get the idea. Just remember to go slowly and make small adjustments.

The truss rod is adjusted correctly when the neck is almost straight with just a small amount of relief. The amount of relief you need depends on your playing style. Heavy pickers need more relief, while those who play with a light touch can get away with a slightly straighter neck. Light strings also require more relief than heavy strings.
