My recent purchase of a white LP custom.....
neck looked decent when I got it, action was hi and I planned on doing a total setup on it.
Tonite I took off the truss rod cover and found exhibit A: one of the 3 screws was missing its mounting hole, a small peice of the wood is gone... the truss rod nut was against the back of the "hole that it runs through, meaning I couldnt put a socket on it. Well I grabbed the nut and pulled and the whole shootin match pulled out about a 1/2 inch. I pushed it back down and it sets "normal" and I can get the wrench on it. It still works, loosens and tightens and the neck does move with it. But there seems to be a small bump around the 14th fret in the neck.
Any thoughts? I assume a broken truss rod would spin free and not "bow" the neck? If I take the "bump out I have no releif and I need to jack up the action.
Looks like I may be pulling the fretboard afterall...............
