Trying to decide on my first set of Duncans

Re: Trying to decide on my first set of Duncans

How well does the Custom clean up?

The description of it sounds good for what I want, but I've been hit or miss on ceramic magnet pickups in the past.

Customs clean up well, in the 90's-style of clean. However, they are one of the most magnet-swapping-friendly pickups around, so you can really transform the sound with a magnet swap if you find you aren't digging it.

Re: Trying to decide on my first set of Duncans

Thought I'd give an update.

I went with a Jazz set. I really thought a lot about the Custom or 59/Custom bridge, but I thought I'd start here and see how it worked.

So far I like them a lot. The neck isn't as bright as I thought it would be, but it has great clarity. They both have a bit more harmonic content than I expected which was a nice surprise for things like country licks.

The bridge is nice. I like the tone a lot for edge-of-breakup type tones and low-mid gain tones, but it's got a bit too much sizzle in the top end for my taste with higher levels of gain.

I might soon be asking for advice on my second set of Duncans. I think I'd like to keep this set in this guitar, and in a second guitar throw in a set that is a little smoother and warmer in the bridge.

Thanks again!
