Hey yall hows it going? Im thinking of getting a fender strat like this
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-FSR-Standard-Stratocaster-Electric-Guitar-105949275-i1559901.gc

to back up for my Gibson SG Standard.

I am thinking of replacing the bridge pickup with a humbucker and the neck pickup.

I play stuff like sabbath, priest, Guns n Roses, and maiden.

I was looking at the alnico 2 pro slash for bridge and im not sure what i should do for the neck, what do you think? any suggestions?

Thank you ahead of time, Phil

Re: Trying to find the right pickups

Firstly, the hyperlink only goes to a "Sorry, item no longer available" page. Hence, it is unclear exactly which model of Stratocaster you have been considering.

Secondly, if you require a back-up for a Gibson SG, the sensible choice is either another SG or something of very similar construction. (All Mahogany, set neck, Tune-o-Matic bridge, stopbar tailpiece, humbuckers.)

For Sabbs, something like the old SG-X might be a good idea. With a pro set-up, the Epiphone Iommi signature model should make a reasonable budget alternative.

Re: Trying to find the right pickups

I'm seeing a black Fender FSR GC exclusive

if ya want the Fender
you can also get the black out version that already has the two humbuckers in it

on the SSS version I am seeing
you will need to purchase another pickguard and electronics as well

I agree withe Funk

Re: Trying to find the right pickups

I think i worded it wrong, its not gonna be like a backup but more as an alternative choice so i can get a little different of a sound from it. and i play some sabbath bust mostly like priest, megadeth, maiden and guns n roses, i could get this one http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-FSR-Standard-Stratocaster-HSS-Electric-Guitar-H64304-i1559902.gc with the humbucker in the bridge and just put creme pickup covers on. for the bridge i want like a good like riffing tone and than a good solo tone for the neck because thats all i use it for

My buddy bought that guitar and the pickups sounded like they had a wet blanket over them. We replaced the magnet in the humbucker with an A5 and it just smokes now. He also replaced the neck and middle with the YJM pickups, although I haven't heard them yet. FYI, we put a Dimarzio Super 2 (thought it was a Super Distortion, lol) in the bridge and the thing got awesome Maiden tones, as it does now with the new magnet.
