TSL60 Tube Suggestions

Hey Guys,

I'm looking at rolling a few tubes through my TSL60 (601 converted to a head) to see what I can get out of it.

I have JJ's in the power tubes but am yet to touch the preamps (After 11 years). I mostly play on the crunch channel at 7 on the gain with a clean boost ts808 on the front end as I find the "LEAD" channel to be wayyy too muddy and over compressed.

As far as I am aware the signal path for the TSL is the below.

DSL 100/50 & TSL 100/60/122/601/602:

V1A: 1st gain stage (active on both channels)
V1B: 2nd gain stage (active on both channels)
V2A: 3rd gain stage (active on Ultra/Lead Gain channel only)
V2B: 4th gain stage (active on Ultra/Lead Gain channel only)
V3A/B: Cathode Follower
V4A/B: Phase Inverter

I am assuming the clean tone would utilise one half of V1 for its amplification.

Now... assuming this is correct, if I wanted to lower the gain and compression on the lead channel to get it a little closer, but still hotter than the crunch I could put a lower gain tube such as a 5751 in V2 to tame it to a degree?

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what to switch out V1, V2, V3 & V4 to?

So my current issues are -
Reduce mud on both channels.
Reduce gain, fizz and compression on the lead channel
Give my amp some balls
I've listened to a few samples and I've liked the sound of the Sovtek 12ax7LPS. The other i've heard good things about is the EH 12ax7. Does anyone have any opinions?

For the record I am using the TSL with a Two Notes Captor for recording as I have a 1 year old and blaring a 4x12 is currently restricted at home =) As for music styles, I'm more into Australian Rock / Foo fighters type sound. So super high gain isn't a priority.

Thanks and sorry for the long winded post!
