Tube advice?

Hey, good people!

I've got a brand spanking new Marshall 2266C (hopefully purple) on it's way to me, and I was wondering what tubes (power tubes and preamp tubes) I should get when the stock ones start sounding unpleasing.

A bit about style and such: I'm a big fan of the nice roar you get when power tubes are pushed. Despite being a former metal head, I also enjoy having a fair bit of mids in my sound (I prefer my guitar actually being heard, instead of being a wash of bzzzzzzzzz and no audible notes), while still retaining some sizzle tendencies and a healthy low end chunk.

I also think I recall hearing about some online tube dealership that gives the sort of advice I'm looking for, so if anyone would happen to know which store or stores I am trying to remember, then you telling me would be great.

Thanks in advance for any answers you give.

Re: Tube advice?

I'd say you really need to use the amp for a little while before you decide something like that...

All amps are different and you need to gel with the amp a bit then decide what you think needs tweaking before buying tubes.

.

Your probably going to like that amp then, because its a KT66 powered amp. Fortunutely, there are some usable KT66 re-issues available now for when the factory installed tubes start to to show some wear and tear down the road.

+1

But if you find you need some subtle changes down the track, here'e my rule of thumb for 3 major good quality tube manufacturers:

jjs for more low end and less treble.
EH for more midrange grind.
tung sols for openness and clarity.
