Tube amp craps out on high gain channel

I;ve got a Carvin Legacy 2 and the high gain channel fizzles out after 20 min of playing. All clean channels fine. I'm assuming the preamp V1 position tube is toast. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Carvin amps
Well all of them really
Have trouble with the .fx loop jacks
Get a short cable jump the .fx loop send/return

See if problem persists

My Belair does it
My Laney did it till I finally changed the jack

V1 is doing it's thing regardless of the amp channel. Look further down stream.

Re: Tube amp craps out on high gain channel

I can't long distance diagnose exactly but if your cleans are fine it isn't V1 because that tube is in the mix at all times...unless there's some weird configuration going on under the hood but I highly doubt it. It could be a number of things.

Post a clip of the nastiness ...perhaps a real amp tech/guy can shed more light on the subject.

Re: Tube amp craps out on high gain channel

It would be easier to just change the tube(s) and see what you hear.....but as SlyFoxx says, we would need to see a schem to see what tubes are doing what in the circuit. Does the Gain Channel hit V1.?

But...after 20 minutes you say.? That is not typically a tube. It sounds more like a heat related issue. Maybe a cold-solder joint, or even failure of a resistor that is getting hot...or a component that is related to the cold-solder problem.
Does Carvin have its own Forum.?
You might want to run this by THOSE guys. This amp Might have issues like the Fender HRDlx or the Marshall TSL amps.
Anyway...try tubes first because they are easy.
Then either plan on yanking the chassis, or taking your amp to a tech.
best
