tube amp = valve amp??

Re: tube amp = valve amp??

yeah... reading european mags they call them valves and not tubes

Re: tube amp = valve amp??

We think of them as lightbulbs, and they think of them as water spouts. One of those small differences between the U.S. and U.K.

Re: tube amp = valve amp??

yes. vacuum tubes are actually electronic valves, they control the flow of current.

Re: tube amp = valve amp??

The definition is something like 'a vlave that controls the flow of electrons through a vacuum tube by thermionic action'.

I think.

Re: tube amp = valve amp??

Yeah, i got a bit confused at first, because over here they are called valves and u lot were talking about tubes, but i quikly caught on!

I think of them as water spouts too...sort of! At least I've always pictured electricity as flowing like water. I picture pots as a gate on a dam...open it up and the water flows. Open up a tone pot/gate and the water flows back to ground...or earth.

The Brits also call "ground": "EARTH". Isn't that quaint? :laugh2:

So your guitar and amp must be "earthed".
