Tube bugera or peavy suggestions

I have a Marshall mg412a that I have been running a crate powerblock through. I wanted to upgrade to a tube head and have really liked the bugera V22 infiniums. I haven’t had a chance to try one out in person yet but love the sound on all the demos I’ve heard.

I was in a shop and found, what appears to be, a pretty good deal on a peavy classic 30 tweed head. It sounded pretty great but it’s an16 ohm and my cab is an 8. Anyone’s have experience with either? I play a lot of classic rock in my band And am leaning towards the peavy since it has the boost option to up the gain if needed since we do a pretty wide variety.

Thanks all!

Re: Tube bugera or peavy suggestions

Personally I'd go with any second hand peavey over Bugera. I know Bugera has worked on their reliability issues, but even the best amps on the market need to be worked on from time to time and from what I've read they're really hard to fix if they break down.

There's plenty of used Peavey's to be had at a reasonable price, such as the Ultra, Ultra Plus, Ranger, Vtm, Triumph.

It seems to me that your issue is the cab. I don't any amp will give you a solid tone through that cab. I'd look to get that replaced first. From your post it looks like your on the budget end of things, so I'd like to say a good 2×12 can be had for rather cheap, wheras a 4×12 usually costs quite a bit more to get a good unit.

As for the amp, a Bugera V22HD Infinium is an excellent head for the money, but I think if you take my advice and get a 2×12, you can make up for the volume loss by getting the 55w model of the Infinium, which can sometimes be had used for the same price as a used 22w.

Yeah makes sense. I’m not super concerned about volume loss as none of my gigs are big enough to warrant a 4x12. Maybe I should look into the combos? Or do you think a head/2x12 combo is more economical?

Here's the combo version of the V55 it has one 12" speaker, but should have plenty of volume. There are plenty of reviews of it on Youtube.

The Peavey Classic 30 is a workhorse. I gigged with one for years.

You can likely rewire the cabinet to eliminate the impedance mismatch with the Peavey. It won't cost much if you have to have someone else do it.
