tube sound in stomp box

Looking for Real Life
anyone know of a stomp box that simulates tube amp sound? not like the ts-9 or any of those other OD pedals, one that gives you tube-sounding clean. I don't really care if it doesn't sound AS good as a tube amp as long as it'll improve cleans

Re: tube sound in stomp box

Mesa V-Twin. Great cleans and "semi Mark-style" Mesa distortion in a 300$ pedal. Why emlate tubes when you can actually have them for pennies more ;)

Re: tube sound in stomp box

which is why i wanted a stomp box, there has to be a cheaper one out there. Aslo, would a EQ pedal do the job?

v-twin is a stomp box bro! and an EQ won't do the job.

Re: tube sound in stomp box

Only tubes will give you a tubelike sound.

You can go with the Mesa V-Twin, mentioned earlier, as well as the Budda Phatman and Zenman pedals.

$300 isn't cheap, but it's much cheaper than buying a new head.

Re: tube sound in stomp box

The Chandler blue tube should give you nice warm tube sound.
I have a TubeWorks Tube Driver that give's a real nice crunch.
Now that I replaced the 12AX7 with 5751 it's got a smoother tone.
Maybe not as clean as your looking for ??

Re: tube sound in stomp box

I got a newer Tubeworks Real Tube for $50 off of ebay ... not bad for the money.

Re: tube sound in stomp box

Another option is Tech 21's XXL pedal. They don't make these anymore, but you might find one used somewhere for cheap. It does a good job of fattening up tone and adding that tube-like swell without adding too much distortion.

Re: tube sound in stomp box

As far as tube sound goes, there is no real substitute for an actual tube amp. In the long run you will be better off saving your moeny and getting a tube amp. Or you can Spend the next few years and a LOT of money buying stuff trying to compensate and never being quite happy with the results.

Re: tube sound in stomp box

Except for maybe pedals based on the circuitry in some of the modeling amps, I don't think there is a stomp box that will actually make a solid state amp sound and feel like a tube amp. Not if you really know tubes and tube amps. It's just a marketing ploy... Lew

I agree with this school of thought

funny you should say that. the vtwin is a hybrid design, with both tubes and opamps, plus a nifty diode clipping stage. the clean section is all SS. check out a schem.
