Tubes recommendation for Engl Screamer Combo

StrangeSound

GlossesForNothin'
Hi folks!

Yesterday I just got the combo. It´s great, especially the cleans and the crunch but I´d like to have a smoother tone in general. I brought the amp to the basement yesterday and cranked it..the tone improves but it could be smoother.

The amp has these tubes (I quote the manual):
V1: ECC 83 / 12AX7, FQ Grade
V2, V3: ECC 83 / 12AX7 selected
V4: ECC 83 / 12AX7 standard
V5, V6: 5881 (6L6GC) matched set

I´m a tube :newbie: and like to hear which tubes would smooth the thing up. I don´t know exactly which tubes are build in right now but I think they´re standard stuff to cover most music styles.

Some opinions would rock :)

I´ll record some clips the other day.

Cheers!

Re: Tubes recommendation for Engl Screamer Combo

I need quick help:

I got the amp yesterday and I think the speaker was put in the wrong ohm input. I sent a pm to Rocker35, cause he has the amp too but he seems offline now.

Got a picture:

I´m just using the internal cabinet and in my view (after reading the manual too) it should be on the left input. It´s a Celestion G12 Vintage 30 (8Ohms).

What to do?

hi StrangeSound,

it's sausage ;) (*) if you use 1st or 2nd plug (numbers regardnig your photo mod).
engl switches those two in parallel, this why it is labled
with either 1x8 ohm or 2x16 ohms.

in my engl thunder it was also connected to the same plug as yours.

make sure, that you NEVER TURN ON THE AMP _WITHOUT_ A SPEAKER CONNECTED

*)schnurzpiepegal
**)angaben ohne gewähr, sollten aber trotzdem richtig sein ^^

if unsure leave it as it was, when you got it
