Tubes...

Hello, I have a 5AR4 Rectifier tube with a loose base. It's just slightly loose, but I'm just wondering if I can keep on using it. I was experiencing no ill affects from using this tube before I discovered that the glass and base of tube were slightly loose.

Thanks, cv

Re: Tubes...

Might use some superglue gel or some such just to keep it from rattling too much. Physical vibrations can harm a tube over time.

Yeah...I would think if you coaxed a few drops of "super glue" between base and glass...you would be better off.
The base is usually just a convenience...with the key pin on it...but you do not need any extra noise/rattling going on...:)
good luck

Re: Tubes...

My understanding, and personal experience, is that superglue's weakness is heat ... it will fail under heat. I would use silicon instead.

But this is based on my experience, no doubt an internet expert will be along shortly to point out that i don't know what i'm talking about.

Well...a couple drips of glue is a penny.....if it does not work...
...A new tube is 30 bux.
Will not be a big deal either way...
High temp silicone is another option of course...:)
best

You may well be right, I've never had to use it for such a purpose. Hi temp silicone would be good as well, but it's a bit tougher to use and not get globs it on the socket and bottle.
