I played around with my ts808 and love rock today. And realized that this is the situation for me, it works wonders with my tele... but doesn't really come to life with my love rock.

Is it just me or do others feel the same?

Nope...

Can't stand my Tube Screamers with single-coils. But with my humbuckers and mini-hums it's a match made in tonal heaven.

I agree. My TS-9 and similar designed pedals are a much better fit with SC's

With Krough on this one.

I prefer a fatter sounding overdrive box with singles..TS cuts off too much low end on an already "thin" sounding pup.

Re: Tubescreamer is made for singlecoils...

I personally don't like Tube Screamers at all. Some players get killer tone with them but I'm not a fan. I prefer the assymetrical clipping of the Boss Super Overdrive (same circuit, different clipping style and other components).

Re: Tube screamer is made for singlecoils...

I find the Tube Screamers to be some what neutral. Aside from a Lil' midrange hump. I only use mine for solo boost, And it works like a charm for Singles, HB's mini HB's etc.

For years, my sound was a TS9 into a late 70's JMP or laterly, a Silver Jubilee mainly playing 80's rock/metal. In that situation, the TS worked equally as well for humbuckers and single coils.

You need to get the Spina modded TS9 or 808. It changes the tone on this OD box quite a bit. I have a stock RI TS9 and I have the Spina modded TS9 and the TS9 that John modded is much fatter sounding and has a lot more bottom than the stock TS9. I use it with ALL my guitars from Teles, and Strats to a 335 and Les Pauls. It works great with everything!

I still use the stock TS9, but I use it in an amp that already has pretty good bottom(a 68 Super Reverb and a Bogner Shiva although the Bogner doesn't need any help:smokin: )

I'm referring to my FD2 when I respond, but it works great with all my guitars...

Eh....most of it is just personal preference. I own both a Keeley modded and a Spina modded and they're great pedals, but my personal preference, even with the mods, is for humbuckers.

Re: Tubescreamer is made for singlecoils...

I've never been able to get any Tube Screamer-type OD pedal to play nice with humbuckers. But I think the 808/909 sound KILLS with single-coils.

MHO

Cheers

Re: Tubescreamer is made for singlecoils...

I liked my TS better with HBs, although I used to have a Strat with a SD Quarter Pounder that sounded pretty darn good!

Re: Tubescreamer is made for singlecoils...

This was what I guessed. Alot of different opinions... :D

After fiddling around a little more I found that I have use for my tubescreamer with my love rock as well. Everyone here probably know that playing a bluesbreaker on apartment level isn't really gonna give lots of crunch.

Now I found that if I run it like this. Love Rock - TS808 - V-Stack Classic - Bluesbreaker combo. I'm getting the best tone out of it.

TS808 is running at Overdrive:0 | Level: 12 o'clock | Tone: halv past 12

V-Stack is running both Bass and Cut at 2 o'clock, Drive at 0 and Master at almost 3 o'clock.

This seems to give the best overdriven sound I've gotten this far on this low level. kind of unexpected...

Re: Tubescreamer is made for singlecoils...

I've used the TS-808 as a pickup booster to make a single coil mimi a humbucker...but I think the Duncan Pickup Booster or Boss DS-1 do that trick even better.

Never been a huge fan of the compressed tone of a Tubescreamer...I like the Boss DS-1 alot more!

Re: Tubescreamer is made for singlecoils...

I have had everything from an 808 to a modded TS-10.
Even a boohootweak tubescreamer...I always ends up getting them out of my house;)
Too nasal and spongy.

Re: Tubescreamer is made for singlecoils...

My favorite overdrive or distortion pedals are those that I can leave on all the time and then go from clean to overdrive with my guitar's volume control.

The Boss DS-1, Duncan Pickup Booster and to some degree the Rat allow me to do that...the TS-9 and TS-808 do not.

Re: Tubescreamer is made for singlecoils...

Yeah those old Boss effects where good:)
I think I will recollect some of the old ones again.
They are genius pedals in many respects, just like a "few" of Ibanez's old stuff.
