Turning a little Laney until a metal amp for cheap?

Well at the beginning of today I could either have:
bought a laney LC15
sent my defective neck to a certain someone who's a good tech on here ( :deal: ) to have it repaired
or bought the StewMac refretting kit and a replacement neck to mess with

I decided to fullfil my GAS and take out some money from my live savings (damn I don't even know if I have enough for what I want but well...) and get the amp AND the refretting kit (someone's going to hate me :burnout: )
I'll be playing the POD through the amp but I also want to have it here in Amsterdam (my 'real' amp is in Edinburgh) to play along music for instance, and also because its natural tone is pretty darn good for such a 'cheap' little amp.

My wish: to turn it into a metal machine without the POD :22: For this I'd need a boost (I already have a highoutput pickup, the Full shred :saeek: :32: ) and if possible, clean or gain.
So I'm wondering, what are some decently priced efficient boosts enable to turn a rock machine into a metal monster? I won't cite those I know of to not influence you, so don't fear stating the obvious ones if you wish Thanks!
Note: this is to allow the pre and power amp tubes to overdrive quicker, not just make my sound louder or boost a certain frequency.

Hey Pott, I saw the post on HC.

You can get higher gain pre tubes from dougstubes.com.

Or you could get a speaker that breaks up earlier.

If I want more gain through mine, I either run my Marshall Guv'nor or my Boss OD3.

I generally don't overdrive my LC15 much, but I have an Eminence Ramrod in mine which makes it more bassy. I also have had the amp modded with a new PT and some other mods to make it more reliable.

It really is more in the plexi mold than a high-gainer. Mine has excelent tone and adding gain would just mudd that awesome sound.

Goedenavond Pierre,

I'd say, grab yourself a nice ole' BOSS OD-1, the yellow overdrive with two knobs.

If you want the sound of it but don't want to pay for the hype surrounding this nifty little box, buy the later SD-1 (yellow overdrive thingy with three knobs) and send it to me so I can modify it to a OD-1 specs.

You'll have a killer pedal that'll be not only great for your little Laney, but also for your regular amps.

Are they THIS good? How would you describe it? Does it have enough gain or like the JCM800 it needs a boost but takes it great?

get a good boost pedal like the TCJ Luxury Drive (that naturally boosts the which in turn slammes the front end and can create ur much wanted metal tones)

Graag gedaan ! (You're welcome) I think it's great already to see that you're trying to speak/write Dutch. Some who have lived here for decades don't speak any Dutch at all.

If you want a completely transparent boost, the OD-1 isn't what you want. It has a punching mid, hight, but a bit of a cut in the bass (and a slight cut in the treble). That makes it a great boost for leads on a Marshall(-ish) amps, but it's worthless for rhythm though.

I haven't tried the SD Pickup Booster, so I can't say anything about that pedal. If it does what it sais it does, it just might be your key to 15 Watts of metal ! :13: :cool3: Anybody here got one ?
