Is the Twang Banger for strat a hot pick up? Description says high output but it still has the blue square meaning moderate output!!?!?!

Help me out please! Does it compare at all to the ssl-5/6?

I'm thinking about getting the Twang Banger but I really hope it doesn't sound "ice-picky". does it?

Re: Twang Banger: Hot or Not?

To me not really hot - Never tried the SSL-5/6's but a nice combo when combined with Antiquity Surfers. I'll vote moderate output.

Actually in this particular Strat I have the Surfer/Twangbanger set in sounds a little thicker than normal.

Not hot - if you look at it its an 8k strat pickup, the ssl 5/6 is about 13k (but with thinner wire). The twangbanger is like a punchy strat, the ssl 5 is more midrangey like a 'bucker

Re: Twang Banger: Hot or Not?

It's not high output but not at all "ice-picky." It has a nice balanced tone IMO. Works very well with vintage strength neck/middle pups.

Re: Twang Banger: Hot or Not?

I regard the TB as a hybrid of Strat, Tele and P90-ish qualities - depending upon how high the amp gain is set. It certainly does not have the edginess of, say, Albert Collins. The "Tele"-ness only really shows on double string bending licks a la Jerry Donahue.

I habitually connect my TB via a Fender No-Load tone pot and set it relatively far from the strings to find the sweet spot.
