Twangbanger

Hi,

Can anyone let me know the difference in tone between the Twangbanger and the Antiquity Custom Bridge? I currently have a set of Texas Hots with a Custom bridge in my main strat and I am more than happy with that setup but I'm building another strat and wanted to try something different for that one. I don't have any experience with Teles but this pick-up sounds like it would have a good vibe to it. How would it compare?

funny. i have a hamer daytona (a strat) with aps2's neck and middle with the twangbanger in the bridge and i love it, its my main blues guitar. im building a guitar for a set of texas hots and a custom bridge.

That is fuunny cause I was definitely thinking of a Twangbanger in the bridge and AP2's in the neck and middle. How does the twangbanger sound compared to a "regular" strat bridge pup? What are the pros, what are the cons if any?

The APS neck and middle with a twangbanger bridge is what I was planning on ordering for my Warmoth swamp ash strat. Since I got an email from UPS last night saying that the body and neck are shipping, I'd better get moving on my pickup order!

The Twangbanger has the metal baseplate on the bottem of the coil which reflects the magnetic field from the bottem of the polepieces upwards towards the strings. This gives a pickup maybe 5% more bass and lower mids than the same pickup without the metal baseplate, without affecting the highs.

Tele lead pickups also have the baseplate so the Twnagbanger sounds a bit like a Tele lead pickup. Except the Twangbanger has alnico 2 polepieces and most stock Teles use alnico 5. So the Twangbanger has the sweeter, less brittle or glassy highs of alnico 2.

I have not compared the Antiquity Texas Hot Custom Bridge pickup to a Twangbanger, but the Custom measures close to 10K and the Twangbanger is 8.27K. I would tend to think the Custom might be a little stronger overall.

I'm a big fan of the baseplate on Strat bridge pickups...it fattens them up a little and that sounds good to me.

This is a clip I did a year or so ago, I just listened to this now and there is some modulation effect going on that I never added. Hopefully it is just through this computer as I recorded it straight with none of the swirly crap. That said you can still get a feel for the sound, it was recorded through my Plexi RI.

The Banger is a wonderful gutty bridge PU. Warms up any Strat nicely and will get you into PAF territory if you choose. But it has a very nice Twang as well and you get a snap on the notes that a normal Strat bridge can't do.twangin and bangin
