Tweak Fuzz (now $55 at GC) My Thoughts

I picked up a Tweak Fuzz at GC yesterday, and it has entertained me for several hours. The Ft Worth GC is selling them for $54.88. Cool deal.

While playing through the TF as the only effect between guitar and amp, it has lots of useable tones that are a blast to play. This thing goes from thick sludge with a hard edge to all out mushy fuzz. Adding a Bad Horsie wah in front changes the sound of the TF a bit, but I'm happy to say that the wah still comes through just fine. This surprised me because reviews that I have read stated otherwise. I didn't try out my Vox wah.

Now, playing the TF with other effects pedals in the chain totally screws with it. If I have another pedal besides the wah before the Tweak Fuzz, say a Tube Screamer or Phaser, then hitting the TF hard makes it crap out(cuts out, farts on itself, just sux), regardless of whether the pedals before it are on or off. AND, with one of these pedals (on or off) after the TF, the tone jumps up a few nothces in the treble frequencies, rendering it tinny and useless.

In short, on it's own = great pedal that's lots of fun. Inline with other pedals = unuseable.

I'm unexperienced with the variety of fuzz tones available. I enjoy my Big Muff, but know that there are other great tones to be had. Any suggestions, SJF?

Pretty much my take on it as well. By itself, it's a lot of fun and very usable. I couldn't get it to play well with other pedals, so off it went to another home.

Shnook, that's where I'm headed with my thinking. Too bad, cause I really like the way it sounds on it's own.

Blood swords, just putting other pedals in line with the Tweak Fuzz makes it crap out, sound covered up, sound fake, or sound way too fizzy. At least this is what's going on in my setup. I've tried it with all pedals using batteries, AC adapter, in front, in back, in between, everything but in the effects loop, and I'm sure I don't want to use it there.

So, is there anything out there that gets close to this pedal but plays nice with others???

it's like this- i have the TF connected parallel to my amp, the Tubescreamer's in series.

Just a follow-up...

I'm keeping the Tweak Fuzz. It has too many good sounds for the price. I LOVE the 4th and 6th positions on the tweak knob. The pedal has inspired lots of new riffs, not to mention hours of pointless noodling. I've also found that it retains it's tone while inline with some pedals, my BYOC Phase 90, Big Muff (both of which are true bypass) and works well with the Bad Horsie wah in front. My Vox wah (true bypasss) cannot be heard, is rendered useless running in front of this pedal, unlike the Bad Horsie, which cuts through perfectly. I wish this thing worked in line with my Keeley DS-1 and modded Tube Screamer, but can't let it go just for that. It sounds too good!

Again, I'm interested in hearing about any other good fuzzes out there. I'm finding that I like the tones with some hair around em, that are spitting and crackly. Where hitting two notes at the same time unleashes some kind of sonic mayhem. I'd like to get this kind of tone with lots of sustain and would love to get into feedback with it. Any fuzzes out there like this?

I run my tweak fuzz into the clean channel of my rectifier in the loop of my GCX to give a Queens of the stone age tone on setting 2 of the tweak fuzz. I really like it. Very versatile.
