Tweaking my Strat for the King of Tone OD pedal...

Still loving the King of Tone. Best overdrive I've ever owned (or tried) for my style of playing.

Now that I have both sides set for overdrive, instead of the factory settings with one side as a clean boost, and have also spent many hours getting the drive, volume and tones control settings really figured out, it's everything I've ever wanted from an overdrive pedal.

I get a fabulous tone from my 10K Antiquity Texas Hot Custom bridge single coil, that sounds almost like a bridge humbucker when I roll the tone control on my Strat down to 4 or 3 or even less and turn the guitar's volume control up all the way. I get that that classic "WOMAN TONE" Eric Clapton used to get from his Gibson SG, when he he'd turn the turn the control way down and overdrive his Marshalls.

My Strat has a master volume, master tone, and a blend pot that I use to combine the neck and bridge pickups.

I rarely use the tone control on any pickup other than the bridge pickup. Rarely use it for the neck or middle pickups.

So I'm going to move the tone control connection from the volume pot to the point on the 5 way selector switch where the bridge pickup connects. That way, I can preset the tone control turned down to that "sweet spot" and leave it there so that when I switch to the bridge pickup it's already ready to go.

I wish I could make recordings to show you guys just how great the King of Tone sounds with that alnico 2 10K Antiquity Texas Hot bridge pickup. It's really something!

I wish you could get that recorded Lew. That's a pedal that I'd like to revisit with my current set up, along with a few other pedals that I sold off over the years. When I had mine I really preferred the normal gain more so than the high side. How is your's set up? Norm/Norm or High/Norm?

Ryan, I had the "red" side modified by Mike for a little more gain than the "green" side. This was Christian's suggestion and he was also instrumental in teaching me how to use the pedal. Would have taken me forever to get the jist of it without his insights and lengthy instructions that he patiently wrote out for me.

My two favorite setting inside the pedal is both sides set for OD. I also like the factory settings which are CLEAN BOOST green side and OD for the red side. For $50, Mike will mod the pedal so that there is a switch outside the pedal instead of inside the pedal. But from what I understand there's only room for one switch and you have to choose which side it would affect.

I would use that optional switch for the green side. Christian said he'd rather have it affect the red side. Not me though. I'd use it to switch the green side from CLEAN BOOST to OVERDRIVE. As it is, I tend to use both sides set for OD.

I have not boosted the treble with the trim pots inside the pedal. No need. Until I learned to roll the outside tone controls down to less than 1/2 way, the pedal caused feedback when I stood close to my amps. No problems with that now and I'm getting a much warmer tone too...more like the Wampler Ecstasy.

I've also learned that I prefer the tone controls on both sides turned down to below 1/2 - sometimes as low as the 9 O'Clock position. I also set the drive control on the red side much higher than I started out using it - 2 O'clock or 3 O'Clock or even higher.

This is with my Strat or Tele. I haven't used the KoT much with my 335 w/humbuckers.
