twin reverb upgrade

I got one of my twin reverbs back today. The thing is a frickin' blues monster. It is a '72. I sent it to get re-tubed with the new groove tube 6l6s. Then I decided to get it blackfaced. Long story short, the guy did a "Hot Blues" mod on the left channel (the one people usually dont use). The channel now sounds like a JTM_45, or plexi-ish. I never used the channel much before, but I sure as heck will now. The amp is really to sweet for words now. Now I can switch back and forth between channels and get 2 different tones. I am very impressed with this mod!!!

Re: twin reverb upgrade

Is that the Torres Mod? I did his Pre-CBS mod on my Twin.
It realy warmed up the amp. No more SF ice pickness.

Re: twin reverb upgrade

I am not really sure. he put a pot with a detent in it for a tremolo bypass, 0 is off (adds a lot of dynamics, great mod) rebuilt the byass, did something with the phase inverter, sprague caps across the board. Then he changed the left channel so it has reverb, and the reverb pot or knob is "global". The right channel is classic twin all the way, but the left channel more ballsy right out of the gate. It has a little more mid tone, or throaty. I am gonna call and let him know how I am liking it. I will try to figure out what he did. When it comes tot he techy stuff on amps I am pretty ignorant.

Re: twin reverb upgrade

those Twins are kinda like having a car from that era ... maybe they weren't the best design, but they've been around so long that all the good techs know exactly how to mod them to suit your tastes, plus they're handwired and easy to work on

as long as you can use the power of a Twin, they're probably one of the best deals out there ... I still think a lot of players get tired of the weight and power of a Twin, and end up selling them, so there are good deals out there ... those and Bassman heads might be some of the better amps that are reasonably priced
