Two amps.

I've pretty much decided that I can't live without the cranked tone of my Deluxe Reverb. But I also can't live without a good clean tone.

Is it really that big a deal to A/B a couple amps? I'm thinking my DR and a Roland JC-120.

Re: Two amps.

Sounds like a plan to me. If I was with my old band, I couldn't realistically use my Marshall. Those guys switched between distorted and clean very often.

Re: Two amps.

What happened is I used to just crank the Deluxe Reverb, but I had a rhythm guitarist that played clean. It was an excellent combination of sounds, and I was happy just being the "lead guitarist" even though I always considered myself a rhythm player.

I basically have had to kick my bassist out of the band, and my rhythm guitarist has decided he wants to play bass instead of rhythm (cool with me, he's a good bassist too). So now I'm the only guitarist and I have to be a little more versatile.

I own the PA and enough mics that I could have a mic on each amp, so I guess I won't piss off the sound man because I am the sound man.

I'm kind of excited about being in a band with a good bassist, because I like a lot of bass guitar in my music, and bass lines that are a little more complicated than my previous bassist could understand/play. I sometimes write songs around bass lines (I play bass as well, I gig with my dad with bass) and this way it'll be easier to write songs like that and have us play them.

I would like to have an *acoustic* guitar as a rhythm, that would be real nice.

+1 for the Morley A/B/Y

I used to use one before I got sick of tap-dancing and switched to a rack.

Re: Two amps.

Not at all. Here's what I used to use. It's really all you need besides a couple of extra cables.

+1 here also....if your amps are plugged into the same power strip/power conditioner you avoid the ground loop hum.

Otherwise get a Road King II; a more refined Recto and some of the most spectacular cleans you can get in one amp.

Re: Two amps.

I've actually got a DOD a/b box I got for 20 bucks. Works wonderfully, I have used it in reverse in the past to switch guitars.

I tried it today (with my Jazz Chourus 60 and the Fender Deluxe Reverb) and my dirty sound seems "clean" enough that I really don't need the JC in there I think. I guess I'm just not the kind of guy that switches between sounds - I have my one sound and it works for me. I really don't like pedals because I'm a simple man.

I just hate how **** loud it is sometimes - but I guess there's no getting around that.

Thanks for the input anyway, guys.
