Two from Quibby's vault.

For all you classic rockers. ... What do you mean it's not 1976 anymore? Was anyone going to tell me?...

Loose, rough, out-of-time, they're demo's. Few bad chords and notes (you'll know it when you hear it!)

If anyone is remotely interested, recorded on computer, Line 6 Gearbox emulator. Marshall JCM 800, gain 4-5, bass 4-5, mid n treb 6-7, Firebird n Les Paul.
Gallien Kruger RB400, settings can't remember, 10% Ibanez Tube Screamer, Thunderbird.

If you like it, thanks, If you don't, please tell me why - How else can I learn.:cool2:

Re: Two from Quibby's vault.

Your classic rock roots are really showing with these tracks. The top song reminded me of early Pearl Jam and I love Pearl Jam. I could completely hear Mike McCready-esque kinda pentatonic leadwork over it. The bottom song has a pretty heavy vibe, but it has a nice groove to it. If I were to offer any criticism it's that the leads sounded a bit off to me (with it tuned better I'm sure it would sound pretty good). I respect your note selection because it would be easy to overplay on these tracks and you chose to keep it simple.

Re: Two from Quibby's vault.

No response so I guess they didn't go over so well. Oh, you learn by your mistakes, I hope.

Re: Two from Quibby's vault.

Don't be too hasty, to think people aren't listening. I want to listen to them a couple more times before commenting, but generally, again I like them. Are you a King Krimson fan? some of it reminded me of the Larks toungue/ red era.:cool2:

Re: Two from Quibby's vault.

I liked it, especially the first track (26). It sounded kind of like a backing track I'd want to solo over.

Re: Two from Quibby's vault.

Again, I like these. Some bits remind of some stuff I wrote back in the mid 70's. Nice evolving type progressions. and your rythm work builds a solid base. You could do to bring up the bass more, to match the level of your kick. I'm listening to it on a system with plenty of bottom end and this is sounding a bit thin on the bass. kick sounds fine.

A bit sloppy here and there but WTF , listen to my stuff and most of the more recent stuff [ SoundClick ] is too.

As UberD says , they sound like something to put a solo over.
Any chance of a DL to play with?

Re: Two from Quibby's vault.

Thanks, been away for few days. (Got hooked playing Call of Duty). When I mixed the bass actually sounded too loud so I dropped it, I monitor with headphones, so that may be the problem - and Thunderbirds can lack a bit of bottom end, they have a lot of mids. And Goldenvulture, what is a DL to play with?

Yeah they are a bit sloppy and not complete, I wanted to get a bit of feedback before I spent hours re-recording properly. And anything that resembles a 'lead' is just a temp, as I dont play lead and am not overly interested to try properly, well maybe some simple Pete Townshend simple stuff but no Ace Frehley/Ritchie Blackmore stuff - mybe in a few years!

In my mind, the guitar is just part of the song, I would like to think the bass completes it, and good drums would make a diff. And vocals of course.

DL = Down Load. So I can put it in the multi track and play with adding a solo line. A mate of mine sends me stuff or puts it some where for me to down load and I add a guitar track and send it back to him. I do a mix of it too. Some of it''s on my Sound Click site. P3 and Phils thing are two of them.

It's neat, he can send me a pile of wavs taken out of a multi track session. I load it into mine and it arrays a he recorded it. He uses Cubase, I use Sonar, so any effects etc are missing, so it's just the raw tracks. I do my track which syncs in with his, and the send him that tracks wav file back. i've had one here for a while that I haven't done yet. Too many others things getting in the way.

i get what you're saying about the structure and how it works to make a complete item. i suppose at this point it sounds like it needs a vocal or something to tie it all together.

I write in a similar way. EG: One in a Million , a track of mine on my Myspace sight [ link below ] is tied up by the vocal and the solo guitar line behind it. That and two other tracks there are relativelyy straight forward 3 1/2 minute songs; The other two, more delving into ideas built around a sequenced synth bass line with improvised lead lines. they are the result of a few takes of the lead lines until it sounded like it was working. They're all circa 1982 > 84.

What's your drumming background? Bands and such ?
I've always paid attention to the rythmic structure of a piece of music, including the rythm guitars/keyboards and how people work them in with the percussion and bass. I like to play with cross rythms and also spent many years ****ing around with variations of 3/4, 6/8. One in a Million and the track Heavan or Hell are both a bastardized 6/8.

Re: Two from Quibby's vault.

GoldenV, don't you ever sleep? As for DL, I could prob set up Soundcloud to enable it, though I was a bit paranoid about people taking it and using it inappropriately. Give me a day or two...
Have been drumming for 25 odd years, mainly in metal/rock bands, nothing of note. I am over the metal scene now, just prefer, as an eg, Foo Fighters stuff as far as being a drummer. Though where I live now I can't play -the neighbours, they even complain about an electronic practice kit, so I am very rusty.

Now I think of it, I have been looking for someone to play lead, So If I can send you my files...

Gonna hit the fart-sack now. Will let you know - if I can get away fron Call of Duty. GGrrr, it uses so much time, much like this forum. Cheers.

I understand, which is why I phrased the query the way I did.

Mixed a Punk/Metal band called BHK back in the late 90's and a unit called Black Jack back in the Mid 80's. Prior to that my pursuits were centered on trying to get a recording contract and do a Studio/Solo artist thing. That was 70's into the 80's. A lot of our local successes of that time consisted of musicians I knew and had mixed with from my teen years and the early 70's.

Have you listened to any of my stuff. It might give you an idea of my guitaring and whether you think it may suit.

And sleep , yes. usually between 2:am and 4:Am to get to bed and awake again by around 9:30Am > 10:30 Am. I am a Disability Support pensioner these days so I don't have any work to get to other than the computer/electronic servicing I do at my leisure so to speak, usually.
The hours I live tend to be a hang over from the years I spent around the R&R biz. Working anything up to 3:30/4:00 Am. Rarely in bed before then. it was a time sphere that suits me, I hate getting up early.
What prompted this query?

Next time , Cheers. Wazza.

PS; I'm pretty out of practice myself.

Re: Two from Quibby's vault.

Ha! I think I saw BlackJack play a few times. Re sleep. you seem to be on here at 1-2am in morning, then so do I, hate mornings. Sorry, been lazy last week and bought a couple of new PC games and got caught up with them. Been working on some stuff so haven't been on here. Sometimes it's easier to spend more time on the forums talking about what we do, rather than actually doing what we do.
