Typical 3 way switch as PU Selector in HSH

OK I have been looking for an hour and I have found 500000000000, wiring mods, but all i want is to use a typical 3-way switch and a pickup selector in a Hum/single/Hum pickup configuration.

Switch Position

Up - H/S
Mid - H/H
Down - H/S/H

I just want it to activate the pickup's like above.:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

AM I MISSING SOMETHING~!

Re: Typical 3 way switch as PU Selector in HSH

i dont think you can do that with a typical 3 way gibson switch

Re: Typical 3 way switch as PU Selector in HSH

Tricky but not impossible.

In the OP, amongst the three desired pickup combinations, one of the H pickups is on all of the time. Hence, all three combinations would be achievable if the three-way selector switch were wired to;
Up = S
Mid = Both
Down = Whichever H is not on all of the time.

Even then, you are going to have to get clever with what the volume and tone pots do.

IMO, some of these permutations are going to sound very similar to each other.

Re: Typical 3 way switch as PU Selector in HSH

so yeah, he could get

hs
hsh
hh

Re: Typical 3 way switch as PU Selector in HSH

nor do i but that wasnt the question

Re: Typical 3 way switch as PU Selector in HSH

The OP never said "Gibson" style switch. Jeremy did. Did you mean a Fender-style 3-way, perchance?

Re: Typical 3 way switch as PU Selector in HSH

that actually would make more sense with a typical hsh guitar...

Re: Typical 3 way switch as PU Selector in HSH

My suggestion would work with either switch format.

It remains my opinion that, unless the guitar bristles with either Volume or Blend pots, the resultant sounds are going to be difficult to tell apart. (Kinda like a 3PU LP/SG Custom.)

On a HSH "Strat" derived design, I would be inclined to have three on/off mini switches like some Jacksons and Kramers. For a Les Paul based design, the Pete Townshend modified LP Deluxe circuit springs to mind.

Re: Typical 3 way switch as PU Selector in HSH

let me clarify. I need the wiring diagram showing a way to use a 3 way switch as the PU Selector switch in HSH , 1 vol., 1 tone, 2 - 3 way switch setup.

3 way switch # 1 - Pickup Selector (This is the wiring Diagram I need)

Pos. 1 - H/S
Pos. 2 - H/H
Pos. 3 - H/S/H

3 way Switch #2 - Will be used as a series/Spilt/parallel switch for the bridge Humbucker a (SD SH-14 Custom 5 with 4 connector wiring)

With the bridge always on and Switch 2 Series/Split/ Parallel, I'll have pleanty of tonal options.

SO, somebody please find me a wiring diagram showing a way to use a 3 way switch as the PU Selector switch in HSH , 1 vol., 1 tone, 2 switch setup.

Re: Typical 3 way switch as PU Selector in HSH

And let me clarify: does your switch look like one of these? (And stop yelling at us.) :)

this is considered shouting and is usually uncalled for

Re: Typical 3 way switch as PU Selector in HSH

Thanks for the info guy's, but yet agian I left out an important part and from what I have learned eliminates the three way switch as a pu selector all together. The other 3 way switch was suppose to be a dpdt on/on/on attached only to bridge hum for split/series/parallel option. Thats why it was on in all positions.

The guitar body is a PRS 513, but i did not want to use 5 single coils. I thought using 2 hums would make my setup wiring easier. Wrong!

So any ideas. So far I have purchsed the body, pu's, 2 3 way switches, 2 500k pots.

I am open to any suggestions.

Re: Typical 3 way switch as PU Selector in HSH

The PRS 513 wiring amounts to a CRL five way lever selector switch offering the usual five combinations of bridge, centre and neck PLUS a three position series/parallel/split mode switch, running through master volume and master tone pots. No push-pull coil splitting or phase reversal.

So, combine this schematic for the PU selector ... http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=3s_1v_1t_5w

... with this one for the mode switch ... http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=esquire_hb ... multiplied by two.

PROBLEM - Where to obtain a four pole, three position lever type switch?

hmm
Ibanez uses them i the SZ guitars
hang on lt me look up the part number

That switch is deceptive. It's only 4P if you wire it as 2-position. If you wire it as a 3-position, it becomes 2-pole. That switch is actually called a DP3T switch. (The six lug version is called a SP3T.) To get all three positions requires using 6 lugs with an external jumper. The "P" and "D" in a switch specification, (ie., DPDT), is independent of how many actual handle positions there are. Note the the SP and DP versions of this switch both have 3 handle positions.

Re: Typical 3 way switch as PU Selector in HSH

Hey guy's have any of you ever used a Schaller 5 way Megaswitch E+? On the following schematics I think it will do what I am looking for. Here is URL http://www.prorockgear.com/specs/MegaswitchE+.pdf

Take a look at the second HSH setup with middle position not split. Do you think this will work & if so what are my option for other 3-way blade switch. From what I have found there is no way to get a series/split /parallel situation from a 3 blade switch.

Thoughts..
