Uh oh! My guitar refinishing habit is spreading to other instruments now

Well I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. Started innocently enough, taking a few stomp boxes and repainting them, changing knobs, rehousing them etc. Then it spread to repainting and modifying guitars.

Now its spilled over into keyboards because I just took apart my Studio Logic 88 key hammer action master controller keyboard and masked off all the panels and gave them a primer coat.

Have to say that flat sheets of metal are sure easier to paint than the horns of a strat! lol

Why you may ask ? Because an ugly gray metal keyboard is sort of boring. I'm doing it a nice bright red metallic that should look a bit cooler on stage

Pics to follow when its done

After this one is done maybe I'll work on my refridgerator or washer/dryer!

What washer doesn't need some chickenhead knobs and oxblood tolex covering right ?

I like your style :D I would've done the keyboard fluro green, but then my inner Vai tends to come out when I hear the word "refinish"

From the title, I though you were going to say you got in trouble for spray-painting your mom's piano. I was actually pretty close.

As far as the washer/dryer go, don't bother. Have you been through the applicance section of Lowe's recently? It's been done.

No but since the SL990 is "only" about 50lbs, I think I'm going to add a couple of strap locks and wear it on stage for a song or two

Maybe isntead of a guitar strap I'll use some heavy steel chains as well

Its time for keyboard players to get their balls back! lol

Project has been coming together very nicely. Just need the upper endcaps to finish drying so I can finish the reassembly. In the meantime I've been polishing up the finish. The bright safety red enamle looks great though.

Switched for a wobbly X-stand to a very cool 4 legged keyboard stand/platform. Holds 350lbs, nothing to get in the way of the pedals and the tubular legs look just like the old Rhoads/Wurlizter leg sets.

Finishing touch is going to be finding an old automobile fender emblem, ideally "stingray" or maybe "thunderbird" in chrome script. I did see a sort of cool "Swinger" one off a Dogde Dart though that would be fitting for the kitschy lounge look. Or maybe a few of those mudflap girls lol

With just a few hours of work and a couple of rattle cans its gone from this ugly battleship grey beast with some really tacky 90's style giant logo and model numbers to a quite sexy retro looking organ.

Pics to follow as soon as I get the emblems
