Ultimate High-Gain Combo?? PICS

Re: Ultimate High-Gain Combo?? PICS

If I lived in the US like you, I wouldn't order anything from Europe. Shipping+customs+taxes are too expensive and that'd make the price/value ratio worse. I'd rather shop for something American.

True and keep in mind the vallue of the Euro kinda smokes the Dollar at the moment. Where this used to be other way around at start. In Other words we can get a Mesa amp way cheaper then we used to now and folks from the USA will have to pay top notch for anything european. Which actualy makes me think wed benifit if both the dollar and euro would be more balanced. :)

i was actually wondering when the $ will go up again .. but for now,it can drop as low as hell :D

Wow... that's cheaper than I expected, honestly :)

I used to see Diezel's go for 4 grand and around 3 grand used. Diezel's seem to keep getting better and better over time (I think the Herbert owns). Make no mistake about it guys, these are the "ultimate" metal amps. I'd take one even over Soldano's and ENGL's.

With all that said, if I wasn't so happy with my custom boutique Fargen (and had an extra grand lying around), I'd go out and buy a Custom Audio Amplifiers OD-100 with the SH and 3+ mods. It's voiced more towards what I want which is the best Fender cleans, best Marshall rhythm and killer Soldano like leads. I can't get over my Fargen, so it's staying though :)

Threads like this are getting me excited about next weeks LA Amp Show.
Companies are gonna be rolling out the Cadillacs next week! I hope all my favorites have booths there! I'd love to see a Diezel booth. Bogner had BETTER be there, since they're less than 8 miles away.

Last week I spoke to a fellow guitarst who had tried the Diezel, and he sayd it was way good, but that price is still mad.

Trainwrecks are IMHO the BEST rock and roll amps around. I've heard sound clips that have brought a tear to my eye. The lead tone is amazing and the sustain and bloom and harmonic presence just makes your jaw drop, I think I'd actually cry tears of joy if I ever got to play one or see one live with a good player.

They are expensive because they are that darn good and there were very few made (all with girls names... no serial numbers). There is mystique there and I've seen them for sale for around 25 grand. Even Dumbles don't go for as much (I've seen those for around 15 grand). I think if anyone were to play a Liverpool or an Express, they'd stop looking at amps period.

They're expensive because they're distinctive, they're rare, and Ken is essentially out of the amp business so there aren't going to be any more made. As an amp that was built to satisfy the sonic requirements of the individual who ordered it, the original price wasn't so outrageous--nowhere near what Dumble charges for a new amp.

From a technical standpoint, they are the epitome of "the devil is in the details". As with most tube amps, the circuits aren't that complicated but in this case the schematic is less than half the story. The basic design was intended to live on the verge of instability (from an oscillation standpoint). That's the brilliance of the the amps and what distinguishes them from the rest of the pack as it's what creates the harmonic complexity and "bloom". Given the circuit's inherent instability, layout and lead dress was crucial. Moving a lead 1/4" could make the difference between tonal nirvana and ear-shredding feedback. That's where Ken's expertise came in to play.

Ken isn't very involved in the amp business these days because of health issues. IMO, you don't see folks building 'Wreck clones the way you see Dumble clones because the behavior of the circuit goes far beyond the schematic and the effort to create a functioning "clone" is pretty daunting. There are a couple builders out there (besides Komet) who build amps inspired by the 'Wreck but they don't seem to have captured the Trainwreck magic as effectively as the Dumble cloners.

Or a Mad Professor Amp...
I'm surprised this one has been over looked, these amps are probably the most exspensive new amp you can buy.

Ariel Pozzo with two Train Wrecks. You would've been bawling!

I took this pic at the '02 PRS Forum Event Jam. At the '03 event, a guy was letting folks get up on stage and play his PRS Dragon. Those were some serious GAS-inducing times...
