Uncontrollable Feedback!!!

Just got my first chance to crank my crank my Vox valvetronix 30 watt!!! Sounds great but... :yell:

I get bad feedback when I'm just holding the guitar, muting the strings. It's not a high pitch sqeal, just a really low pitched feedback that's extremely annoying. If I lower the guitar's volume it will go away, but if I so much as move it will come back.

All the parts on my guitar are tight, the humbucker is mounted firmly (at least it seems to be), the jack is fine... nothing rattles! I'm standing as far as my cord will let me away from the amp.

I found that if I lower my schecter's pickup, I get less feedback at lower volume, but still if I crank the amp, i get huge amounts of feedback, also I don't want to have to alter my tone to keep this from happening.

So what's wrong? I'd appreciate any suggestions... Could it be something loose in the amp? I'm clueless here... Maybe it's normal?
thanks in advance,
dan

low pitched? like a hum almost?
not a hum like I'm used to it... it builds up like feedback, and stops if I start playing the guitar or turn the volume down and back up. But if I move at all, it will start again.

Could it be from playing in a fairly confined area (i mean bedroom space).

It starts up even with my master volume only at 1/4, with everything else cranked. (on any preamp setting between JCM2000 and Mesa Rectifier). if I crank it on the "80s Marshall" setting, (JCM800, I think) or below, there are no problems.

Re: Uncontrollable Feedback!!!

I had the same problem. Try putting some bubble wrap under the pickup. Or if that does not work then dip the pickup in parafin wax. It is either vibrating in such a way that it moves the pickup and squeels at a low frequency. Try putting your finger on the pickup while making chords or playing one handed. If it goes away then I think the bubble wrap will fix it. If not then you have to pot the pickup with wax. Turn your gain down if all else fails.

Yes, the hand thing works! Well... time to get me some bubble wrap and report back soon!

Re: Uncontrollable Feedback!!!

stuffed the pickup cavity with tissue paper. Does the trick nicely, though i've yet to completely crank the amp.
thanks!
