'under the radar'. Full song+vox. Modern Heavy Metal. (reamping podfarm platinum)

Re: 'under the radar'. Full song+vox. Modern Heavy Metal. (reamping podfarm platinum

I like your playing, heavy and spacey...good stuff.

I think I would have liked it if when you took the guitar break after the first vocal lines that you made it no more than 4 measures then went back to the opening vocal melody. I think then a chorus section after the second verse melody would make it easier to follow. I kinda got lost listening.

Thanks innerdreamrecords.co, you have a great ear but even more, you know how to articulate your thoughts on things. I like to mix things up in songs from the usual pattern sometimes but I dont want to go to far. Based on your comment Im working on a

intro-verse-4barguitarsolo-verse-bridge/chorus-verse-outro

song right now, Im having fun with this, thanks

I'll get to this tomorrow, right now I need to get the wife out the living room so I can see the golf!

i like some of it. the guitar/bass tones i like, drums i like the playing but not the tone, they're not heavy enough. your vocals sound very reverb-y and airy, and i'm not into that much reverb but it works. otherwise i like it.

Right on, Im glad you dig the guitar/bass tones, Im still on the honeymoon with my podfarm platinum plugin and hope it never ends  Ive tried my best with ezdrummer/DFH by rendering separate tracks, adding separate compression/eq but I think Ive reached the point of diminishing returns. I dunno how to download new drum samples properly, not sure how much it would help. I cant spend money on my recording rig for the next few months so I just gotta tweak what I got.

I use alot of effects on vocals and have tweaked them alot so far, Ill check out the reverb/delay etc again, thanks for the honest listen/comments :)

have you got a cheap keyboard around with a 1/4" out? usually they've got a few drum settings and you could send it straight into the toneport instrument input, record separate parts(kick and snare for one track, high hats/crashes on a brighter track, etc) and EQ accordingly. at least that's what i've been doing lately:D

I dont have a keyboard and Im not buying anything for a few months; most in the sneap forums are using toontrack S2.0 which looks pretty cool, not sure if its worth it for me though...Ill keep tweaking what I have, maybe use a different drumkit; I think I was using the factory version and I might try the deathmetal or thrash drumkits...

Re: 'under the radar'. Full song+vox. Modern Heavy Metal. (reamping podfarm platinum

the lead guitar sounds awesome. you have a very distinct 90's influence in your metal/rock style i think. unlike the traditional emphasis on riffs and and hooks that prevailed in previous decades and now, i think you go more for building an atmosphere and you get things heavy without emphasizing the guitars through finger acrobatics. This is why i hear a lot of Tool and Alice in Chains influence in your work.

very interesting and different. I gotta agree with super rad on the drums though, they dont match the energy of your instrumentation. i know its software drums but i think the problem is that they SOUND like software drums, if that makes any sense...

best of luck =)

Re: 'under the radar'. Full song+vox. Modern Heavy Metal. (reamping podfarm platinum

rashayritto - thanks for listening and the feedback - much appreciated.

I agree on the drums - I did some really weird guitars on backbeat odd time signatures so now its hard for me cover up the software with diff cymbols and fills to make it sound like a real drummer; compression and subtractive eq help but once you do that it still sounds robotic; Im just gonna be happy with it on this song and try new stuff on other songs with rhythyms that are easier for me to manipulate the software with. I was in damage control half the time in this song, trying to find drums that fit, and ended up deleting the first and last parts of the song to cover up some of the monotomy.

Thats killer on many levels the way you characterized where my music is. I respect finger acrobatics, but it probably wont play much of a part on my music for the next 5 years or so, Ive never really listened to it or played that style much at all and dont plan to. I like textures and emphasis to make a canvas for the vocals and the message, I have an idea/feeling and then I write the guitars then the vocals.

Hmm, maybe it's just my system since no one else mentioned it but the mix all sounds a bit messy to me.
The rythm guitars and the lead guitars aren't seperated enough, and the cymbals going at the same time make things all too busy. Same for when the vocals come in.

I think the riffs are great, your vocals are fantastic as always, and it's a doomy as all hell song - the mix just really isn't working for me.
Louder snare and bass drum, lower cymbals, guitar parts more seperated et voila - doomy goodness!

Re: 'under the radar'. Full song+vox. Modern Heavy Metal. (reamping podfarm platinum

Diocletian - thanks dude! quite helpful. Glad you dig the riffs and vocals.

I tried my best to incorporate your comments. My guitar solo was 2 amps through podfarm so I mistakenly had them panned hard right/left and I should have them centered. Good catch Diocletian!! My mistake. I found out that I could add some fills that are backbeat, and tried some more drum things, raised the snare and bassdrum, lowered the cymbols, equalized stuff...

Im just starting with mixing but Im getting the hang of things :) Thanks for the insights! :beerchug:
