UO A5 vs A4 in Jazz N?

I have a Jazz neck pickup in a Parker Fly, which is an inherently bright guitar to begin with. The Jazz N was pretty spikey treble-wise in that guitar, so I put in a UOA5. That helped balance it out but it is just not real exciting.
How do you think an A4 would compare to the UOA5 in the Jazz N?
(I play clean, blues & mid level rock, no extreme distortion).
Thanks!

If I was you, I'd try with an A2 in the Jazz.

I think that the Jazz set should be stock with A2 mags and NOT A5s.

The UOA5 mag in the neck sounds ok, but it's got a loosy, spongy quality in the bass I don't appreciate that much. The A2 is much more balanced, tone-wise. Even an A3 mag would sound better in that spot.

I haven't tried it myself but I've heard several rave about the sound of an A2 in a Jazz. I personally really like A2 mags in general and would really love to try it in a Jazz (if I had one).

I personally dig the polished A4 in the Jazz. it'll tighten up the lows and sweeten the highs. if you are concerned about the highs, try the roughcast A4.

based on my experience with the UOA5, an A2 would be very similar but with less output and less highs.

try it both ways. it's just a few bucks for a mag.

I shall certainly try an A2 in the Jazz N. Anyone try an A4 in a Jazz?

Always me. ;)

I had an A4/A8 modded Jazz set for a while, but that sharp pick attack characteristic of the Jazz design caused ear fatigue.

It was when I've tried the A2 mod that gave that set exactly what I was looking for. The set resides in this guitar:

Is that a semi or full hollow, my friend?

It's a Gibson L-5 CES copy, Rick.

Carved top and back, full hollow, 17" box. All-maple body and neck, rosewood board.

Big as a J-200. Thank God the Jazz set is lightly potted! :eyecrazy:

Nice. There's an old school charm to full hollowbodies. Like stepping back in time. Nice for a moderate volume blues gig. I've got a few of them: Casino, Ibanez AF105, AF75, and Washburn J3.
