Hmm, sometimes that scoop gives a perceived volume loss when losing those mids. I may just have to swap the polished alnico 2 back into it and take the rough cast (but fully charged at home, addiction fx magnets never come fully charged) uoa5 out and see. It's a covered one though and that adds a little more tribulation to the swap.
The magnet swap there would change the EQ, which could be perceived as 'louder', depending on how you hear things. Some hear mids better, some hear highs and lows better.
Alnico 5 is stronger. So it will be louder with more top end. That’s why it sounds scooped. It’s not possible for a magnet to scoop the midrange. It’s just where the resonant peak lies. The frequency response is a product of the pickup windings.
