Upgrading Pickups

I bought a nashville telecaster and I really really like the tones bill frisell gets out of it on blues dream. especially with distortion. well for one, my tele buzzes alot with distortion on so that is my main reason for wanting to upgrade my pickups. second, I'd like to know if anyone has some suggestions on pickups that would have a nice compressed and yet highly sustained sound for that tone bill frisell gets out of his teles. it amazes me the screams he can get yet without the distortion he can get a classic jazz sound out of it as well. anyway hopefully somone can help me out. anything helps.

FWIW you posted this in the wrong place. No biggie

I just put a vintage 54 in the neck and paired it with a Jerry Donahue bridge in a MIJ 52 RI Tele. The tone is so much better now than the stock setup. I can get a real smooth jazz tone from the neck, espicially when I roll the tone back some. The Bridge PUP is quite nice. It has more midrange than the '54 bridge and IMO sounds better. I have always battled the bridge PUP being to bright.... espicially thru Fender Amps (I have a Deluxe reverb and a Super Reverb). This PUP is much esaier to deal with. I like this combination.

Dave,

I know I'm perpetuating this thread in the wrong place, but just wanted to say that if I had a Tele, I'd go with the Jerry Donohue bridge as well. Just from the sound samples it is the best to my ears.

It turned really well. I bought Scotts pinstripe Tele, and a while back he gave me a vintage 54 neck pup. I planned on putting that in my MIJ Tele with the JD Bridge. It turned out that the PUP he gave me was a quarter pounder, so I put a set of QP's in the pinstripe Tele and I orederd a Vintage 54N to go with the JD and all is good in Teleland!:fingersx: On a side not and I appologize to Josh about all of this. I just bought a Bogner Shiva. The amp is superb. I haven't had a lot of time on it yet, but so far with my EC Strat and my Les Paul the Amp smokes. I'm having a little difficulty dialing in good tones from both channels, but I can hear its all there. A llttle more tweaking and I'll have it. The amp has a huge amount of gain. Much more than I will ever use. I think I have the gain in drive channel at about 10:00 and it is strill a little to heavy. I can get some really good Hendrixy cleans out of it fairly easily. :smokin:
