Urgent: Not getting any sound from my Ibanez!

All I did was replace the stock cap with a new Orange Drop cap. I replaced it EXACTLY where the old cap was and touched nothing else. Now, for some odd reason, I'm getting no sound/output whatsoever from my guitar. I checked all the connections, and there's no loose wires or anything. I wired the thing up myself last winter. I NEED HELP, I'm sooo freaking frustrated right now, I don't know what I'm gonna do.

make sure you didnt overheat the pot, and make sure nothing became disconnected without you knowing, and check the output jack.

Not sure how that guitar is wired,but possibly you overheated something or accidentally pulled one of your jack wires off? Look around again for a bad or loose connection...If everything worked before you replaced the cap,then backtrack...It has to be either a bad cap or your connection..Right?

What happens if it got overheated? That seems to be the most likely problem.

Also, expect the unexpected. I recently changed a cap also, and got no sound. When I put the pickguard back into the guitar, the cap hit the wood on the side of the control cavity, and bent back to where one of the leads, (the ground lead), touched the "hot" terminal of the volume control.

Voila - no sound. :smack:

This is also known as Murphy's Law.

Bending the cap wont short it out, but if you bend it to make a lead touch something else, then you short out the circut.

Here's what I'd do,

Open up the control cavity, turn you amp on and plug your lead into the jack, then lightly pull or move each wire. While your doing this, grab a small screwdriver and LIGHTLY keep tapping your pups or your strings if you have them on at the time.

You might have knocked a wire loose. Also, check your input jack.
