Hey guys, i'm ordering a neck and body from US Custom Guitars and wanted to get some input regarding their finish quality, especially on dyed tops.

Thanks!

Re: USACG Finish Quality?

I've never gotten one myself but Tommy is a great guy and Im sure the quality of his in house finish work is just as good as the quality of his wood work! I'd give it a shot w/o even worring if I were you!

Re: USACG Finish Quality?

i got a neck from them and the finnish was perfect. Satin finnish with a gloss headstock. I think i have some pics.

cant really see the satin on in the pics but let me tell you it feels nice and slick. they do a great job.

Re: USACG Finish Quality?

it is top notch quality, just like pretty much everything from USACG.

Re: USACG Finish Quality?

Thanks guys.

Richard the neck looks great! Everytime I see a USACG neck it seems like there's so much attention to details in it. Did you need to do fret leveling or was it good to go out of the box?

Re: USACG Finish Quality?

there really is a lot of attention to detail. Tommy cuts most of the necks I use because I can do them no better myself, and I would need more tools in my already cramped workshop.

I hardly have to touch the frets, the work is near perfect every time.

Re: USACG Finish Quality?

Or you can do your own finish with shellac or tru oil - the tru oil finish is out of this world good, I think EBMM uses it on their guitars.

edit: plus tru oil bonehead simple to apply (in my experience)

IME for a neck finish 2 thin coats of shellac followed by 4-8 coats of TruOil, buff back with 0000 steel wool and then wax => AWESOME feel

Thanks man. Is the satin vintage tinted? How much time do you have this neck?

Re: USACG Finish Quality?

It does in fact need a fret level but thats normal. Its was almost perfect out of the box but when i do a full bend at the 11th fret high E string frets out. If i had the tools i could have fixed this already but i dont. It is not a vintage tint and ive had it for a year but the pics are from the first day i got it.
